I haven't seen any claims like what Aufderheide and Sinnreich are probably envisioning, but there are a few involving scientific journal articles.
Wang v. Feng (https://dockets.ccb.gov/case/detail/22-CCB-0191) was a claim that an IEEE article infringed on someone's dissertation. It was dismissed because the dissertation wasn't registered.
Hasan v. Tejidor (https://dockets.ccb.gov/case/detail/22-CCB-0249), et al involves an authorship dispute about an article in a medical journal.
And academic-ish there's 1) Kramer v. Tobias (https://dockets.ccb.gov/case/detail/22-CCB-0101 - academic article infringed on a university website) and 2) Bronner v. EssayZoo (https://dockets.ccb.gov/case/detail/22-CCB-0012 - claiming infringement of essay prompts for a university class).
