The really scary part of this legislation comes from the broad scopes of the DPIA process, which seems to allow all sorts of shenanigans.

(i) Whether the design of the online product, service, or feature could harm children, including by exposing children to harmful, or potentially harmful, content on the online product, service, or feature.

All UGC pornography sites could be brought in under clauses B & E of "Likely to be accessed by children" since there's a considerable teen audience and any study of any rigor would easily show this. Pornhub, Xhamster, XVideos and similar sites could be forced to age gate and exclude such audience. The UKAADC may be misused by the Truss government for this purpose.

Requires algorithmic scanning of all UGC video to detect "harmful content" and age-gate it.

Google Podcasts are already being age-gated under the UKAADC. Postcasts with an Explicit rating are not accessible by minors.

(ii) Whether the design of the online product, service, or feature could lead to children experiencing or being targeted by harmful, or potentially harmful, contacts on the online product, service, or feature.

Any messaging service would need to shield children from some or all unknown adult contacts, or conduct surveillance for predator activity. Since encrypted services can't see into content for AI-based pedophile detection, maybe we'll just turn off encryption!

(iii) Whether the design of the online product, service, or feature could permit children to witness, participate in, or be subject to harmful, or potentially harmful, conduct on the online product, service, or feature.

Affects all UGC sites where a user of any age can post a video of any stunt, dare, or other dangerous activity. Could a "don't do this at home, kids" chemistry experiment qualify if it is easy for a child to replicate?
Affects all UGS sites where an activity which is illegal, or illegal for minors - such as smoking or gambling - is depicted.
Affects any online game which depicts or glorifies criminal or otherwise harmful activity, such as Grand Theft Auto.

(v) Whether algorithms used by the online product, service, or feature could harm children.

By, one supposes, overheating the battery on your child's iPhone, causing the case to explode and shrapnel to fly.

(vii) Whether and how the online product, service, or feature uses system design features to increase, sustain, or extend use of the online product, service, or feature by children, including the automatic playing of media, rewards for time spent, and notifications.

This could lend license to regulation of screen time in games, aka South Korea's former Shut Down (Cinderella) law.
