Pure stupidity on their part. Large bodies of people who call themselves “Council of the European Union” and the the European Parliament, adopting the EU Anti-Geoblocking Regulation on February 27, 2018, shows how archaic and pointless these groups are to the world today. They are literally cannibalizing themselves based on their own stupidity or allowing themselves to be infiltrated with garbage ideas.

As a IT Security Professional, removing Geo-IP is not only preposterous as a claim by the European Parliament, but it requires knowledge of IT, that neither European group seems to comprehend.

Geo-IP filtering allows USA businesses to deflect ANY Internet attack or solicitation from China, for instance, if the business has no interaction with China whatsoever. It is a defensive measure that is REQUIRED today in any business.

If an America business chooses to BLACK LIST all countries that are NOT part of their business dealings, it SIGNIFICANTLY reduces the attack success of cyber criminals.

This filtering is COMPLETELY justified, and is required for the maintenance of IPv4 accounting in an organized fashion. Geo-IP also allows ICANN to easily maintain who gets IP’s and who leases them. It is a basic FUNCTION of IPv4 distribution and maintenance.

If these governing bodies had ANY technical proficiency, and understand Twentieth Century history, this is essentially an attempt at destroying the existing Democratic system. Someone has hijacked the European Parliament, turning them into a bunch of automatons or they are so old they are in need of retirement.

Every Western business has a right to choose whomever they choose to do business with, and tools they employ to operate that business. Businesses don’t operate wherein everyone is a peer. They operate based on a hierarchy. If the EU wants to destroy this structure, then they are all pointless in their role.
To protect International Copyright, there needs to be a group of people that include international law legislators, arts leaders, and technology leaders to redefine the accounting and licensing of art using modern technology. But changing the way IP networks operate to accommodate archaic systems is backwards. It is shocking this has gone this deep in the reverse direction.
