This gets to the point of whether it’s better to post on my platform, where I want to reduce friction costs even if friction would add more money, or on someone else’s platform where they used interstitials and adblockers and other technologies designed to boost revenue even at the possible expense of readers

Once the adblock thing hit, I never read your stuff at Forbes again. Not that I was boycotting it, but I would click the link, say “oh yeah” and then my attention would focus elsewhere — so it wasn’t that the adblock thing made me angry (I understand the reasoning) but, in an attention deficit disorder world, that one more step wound up costing you a reader who really likes your stuff (as you’re aware).
